How to Hear
Head and Hearts Moved Towards God through the Common Grace of Music
I consider music to be a common grace. This means that it is a gift to mankind despite the status of their salvation. It is to be enjoyed by the elect and reprobate alike. It is sanctioned both for the sinner and the saint.
7 Ways How To Hear
Here are seven ways how to hear.
Listen for melody. Be moved by the beauty of simple melodies and complicated choruses.
Listen for skill. Be amazed that God gifts men and women with uniqe talents and abilities.
Listen for strength. Enjoy the power that is produced in a moment.
Listen for softness. Enjoy the delicateness and stillness of a moment.
Listen for unity. Think of how many can come together and sing the same song.
Listen for diversity. Think of how many can retain their uniqueness while contributing to the whole.
Listen for harmony. Think of how many can work together to create a work of art.
The Beauty of Music
The beauty of music is that it can be played and enjoyed by all different types of people. From your high school orchestra to the LA Philharmonic. From a street performer to a stadium-touring band.
Most of us are not professional musicians, but God has gifted the church with music. We sing every Sunday. And we should be making melody to the Lord with our hearts throughout the week. That surely includes filling our homes with songs.
Ears to Hear
God has given us the common grace of music. It is offered and available to everyone who has ears to hear. Just like the gospel.
