Thank You, Brave Saint Saturn, For Writing The Song “Daylight”

Thank you, Ben, for reminding me of this gem. Arguably the greatest song ever written by Reese Roper; most definitely the greatest song in the Brave Saint Saturn discography. Not for the faint of heart and not for your easy listening pleasure. This song is not fast food – it is a song that needs to be enjoyed, digested, and given time to nourish your soul.

Quick story. My best memory of this song is driving through the backwoods of Chino Hills. I remember playing this song on my Sony portable CD player that was hooked up to a cassette tape that enabled me to listen to it in my Toyota Camry car stereo.

I remember being hit by the sincerity and earnestness of the bridge and final chorus. I don’t know how, but I cried twice while listening to it that late afternoon. And from that point on, I knew the type of songs I would strive to write. Songs that are honest, songs with feeling, and songs of hope.
