How I Get Stuff Done

I was recently asked how I am able to get stuff done. I have work, school, family, church stuff, music stuff, and whatever else in between. This is my answer in a list format.

  1. I don’t really do that much stuff. It might seem like a lot, but I think compared to others, I just do a couple things a lot of the time.

  2. My hospital job is a good job. Close and manageable.

  3. My school is reasonable and online.

  4. I have a great helper in my wife. Everything I do and everything I am able to do is because she encourages, supports, and affirms me.

  5. I stay focused. I like to finish my tasks as soon as possible. My work hours are somewhat flexible, so I like to go to work early so I can go home early. I don’t mess around and I get right to exercising. Not being distracted is key. I know how to say no.

  6. I use technology to my advantage. It helps me stay organized. I use Evernote and 1Password. I often have my laptop and phone with me in case I have to work on something. I use Skype to “meet” with Mat for Unikoi Questions. I text and email. I listen to my podcasts while I drive, exercise, and complete chores. I use Feedly as my RSS reader.

  7. I make sure I get enough sleep and plan my days out as much as I can. Jess and I use our iPhones to sync our schedules. I try to condense my shopping or errands so I’m not taking unnecessary trips outside of the house. I’m also selective in my free time, meaning I anticipate when I have it and I plan who or what I’ll spend it on.

  8. I’ve been taking naps during my lunch break at work. I take a 15-20 minute nap and it seems to help me get through the day without relying on caffeine. Although I do drink coffee, coke, and milk tea at times.

  9. I don’t have any kids. I say this knowing that Jess and I will change some things around if God blesses us with kids.

  10. I live my life knowing that I am a steward of my abilities, time, and resources.

Writing this was fun and it hopefully gives you a glimpse into my life and how I work at this moment in time. Life happens in seasons and I’m in a season where I feel that I’m able to do as much as I possibly can. It’s definitely not for everyone, and it doesn’t work out for me every time. I’m trying to work on being minimalist and selective in what apps I use, what clothes I have, what I need vs what I want, etc. I’m definitely still trying to improve on everything and I count it a blessing to be doing what I do in all areas of my life.
