Listen and Learn

Two Reasons to Read and Study God’s Word

Aaron Lee | March 14, 2025 | FCBCW AWANA | 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Introduction

Do you have a favorite subject in school? Do you like to study math, science, music, or art?

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

1. Listen to God

These are God’s words to us. We read it as if God is speaking directly to us.

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

The Bible was written by men, but it was specifically written by men carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Application

So, how will you study the Bible to listen to God?

2. Learn how to grow

Scripture is for us to study and put to use. The Bible is not meant to sit on the shelf. It is to be studied and applied to our lives so that we can grow in our faith.

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

The Bible is profitable for teaching, reproof (telling someone when they’re wrong), correcting, and training people to live in the right way. This makes a Christian complete and equipped. You cannot expect to grow as a Christian and be ready to live as a Christian if you do not read and study your Bible.

Application

So, how will you study the Bible to learn how to grow?

Gospel

It’s important to understand that only the man of God can listen and learn from the word. Others may read and study, but it takes the Holy Spirit to truly help you see.

Big Idea

Christians read and study the Bible to listen to God and learn how to grow.

Conclusion

Studying the Bible is not for just at church – but it’s for all of life. I pray that you will commit to studying the Bible to help you hear from God and grow in faith.
