God Sent Forth His Son
Three Insights About the Incarnation
Aaron Lee | December 22, 2024 | FCBCW Children’s Worship | Galatians 4:4-5
Introduction
What is the incarnation? The incarnation means that God became a human. He put on flesh. God sent his Son into the world. God had a purpose and a reason to do this. Jesus was sent on a mission. We see this in Galatians 4:4-5:
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. (Galatians 4:4-5)
1. The Right Time
Our passage today makes mention of the fullness of time. It’s the proper time. The fitting time. The right time. God is in control of everything, and he directs history. Jesus put on flesh at the right moment in time.
Application
Will you trust God’s perfect timing in your life?
2. The Redemption of Sinners
We now see why God sent Jesus as a human – to redeem those who were under the law. Humans are under the law. It means that we are held to a standard – the Ten Commandments help us see this. When we break the law, we sin. Galatians 4 actually speaks about how we are slaves to sin. God sent Jesus to redeem us. He purchases us back with his blood and frees us. We now belong to God.
Application
Will you see yourself as belonging to God?
3. The Reception of Adoption
Finally, our passage says that God redeems us in order to receive the gift of adoption. It’s already one thing to think about how great it is to be in the family of God right now. But I think this passage also speaks about our future – what we will receive outside of this world as children of the King – of the God of the entire universe.
Application
Will you look forward to your future inheritance?
Big Idea
God sent Jesus at the perfect time to save us and make us His children.
Conclusion
God sent his Son into the world with purpose and reason. Jesus was sent on a mission .As God sent Jesus into the world, so Jesus sends us into the world, with purpose and reason and mission:
As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. (John 17:18)
