The Lord of Psalm 23

What is there to see in Psalm 23? In The Lord of Psalm 23, David Gibson gives a portrait of Jesus as shepherd, companion, and host.

This book arrived at the perfect time. Our church had just finished a senior pastor sermon series on Psalm 23, and this book allowed me to dive deeper into this famous and familiar passage. There are layers of beauty in this supposedly simple Psalm.

Deepest Darkness

I was most moved to see how the Shepherd’s presence allows us to walk through deepest darkness. It’s a steady advance of a soul that is unafraid to die, faithfully following the lead of our Lord. It is because of the Shepherd himself - we have no need to fear.

I was most pleased to read about the Lord being our host - and how the host provides for the guests’ every need. It is a beautiful furthering of the Shepherd motif - and a picture of what we have to look forward to in the future.

Comfort and Encouragement

Gibson does not leave us with solitary commentary. He hopes for his readers to apply the truths - asking questions and causing us to examine our hearts. He is uplifting and encouraging.

Like the Psalm itself, this book will comfort and encourage you with solid truths about our Shepherd. This book made the Lord look bigger to me but also brought him closer to me. Read this book and allow our Shepherd to restore your soul.

I received a media copy of The Lord of Psalm 23 and this is my honest review.
