Life with Jesus: Youth Edition

In Life with Jesus: Youth Edition, Tim Chester and Katy Morgan teach a discipleship course for teens. This book is a Bible study, perfect for youth groups, Sunday School, and mentoring discipleship.

A Firm Grip on the Gospel

Chester and Morgan know how to give young people a firmer grip on the gospel, guiding them through its central truths. It is firmly based on Scripture, and I appreciate how the book includes full Bible passages for students to mark up and make notes.

The dictionary sections are also a great addition, providing clear explanations of difficult or unfamiliar words for young believers. This makes the book more accessible and helps to ensure a deeper understanding of the text.

Community and Suffering

What I appreciated most was the way this book emphasizes life within the church community. It highlights that salvation isn’t just an individual experience, but that we are saved into a community—the body of Christ. The book stresses the importance of the church as our spiritual home where we can grow and thrive.

I was pleasantly surprised to see a theology of suffering explored in this study. When examining Romans 8, the book reminds us that Christians are not immune to suffering. We are called to follow in the footsteps of Christ, and with the help of the Holy Spirit, we can live faithfully through trials. Most importantly, we are assured that nothing can separate us from God’s love.

Accessible and Practical

The spiritual disciplines, such as Bible study, prayer, and communion, are also thoughtfully addressed. The book wraps up by exploring practical aspects of Christian life that would be interesting to teens, including money, romance, and evangelism. This book covers a lot of ground while staying grounded in the word.

Life with Jesus: Youth Edition balances accessible theology with practical applications. This book is an excellent way to help youth articulate and deepen their faith.
