God Speaks Through Wombs

Is there a place for poetry when reading through the Gospels? In God Speaks Through Wombs, Drew Jackson shares his poems on God’s unexpected coming.

The book is divided into eight sections: (1) Openings, (2) Revelations, (3) Immersions, (4) Temptations, (5) Rolling Deep, (6) On the Plain, (7) Life Lessons, (8) Parables and Other Things. The book brilliantly follows the general layout of the first eight chapters of Luke’s Gospel.

Community Connection

Jackson’s words are revelatory, and he says that he writes unapologetically as a Black man. You can feel his connection to his community in “Nazareth” –

“South central Galilee.
God comes to the southside.”

Jackson does not compromise the Gospel story for the sake of creativity. As he tracks along Luke’s narrative, he shares the heart of God. He shares different perspectives, and his poems are both poignant and provocative.

Pastor, Poet, Artist

I have never read anything like this before, and I find myself wanting more. Drew Jackson is a pastor, poet, and artist who gives words to our groaning. It is encouraging. It is inspiring. It is life-giving.
