The Most Honest and Ethical Profession
What does America think about nurses? Here are the results according to an annual Gallup poll.
More than four in five Americans (84%) again rate the honesty and ethical standards of nurses as “very high” or “high,” earning them the top spot among a diverse list of professions for the 17th consecutive year.
Do You Trust Me?
Honesty and ethical standards are a way to measure how much an individual can be trusted. According to the poll, Americans believe nurses can be trusted because they believe nurses hold to high honesty and ethical standards. They would not lie to you. They would not swindle you. They would do what is right.
Should You Trust Me?
The fault in this thinking is that the survey measures what you believe about nurses. It does not actually measure if nurses are really honest and ethical. So your faith in me being honest and ethical is purely out of having a high regard for my profession. You think that I am honest and ethical because I am a nurse. But your thinking of me and my profession as a nurse does not automatically make me honest and ethical.
Will You Trust Me?
As proud as I am to be a Registered Nurse and to know great people in this career, I am more proud to be a Christian and to know the Living God. He is the only one who is always honest, true, and ethical because he is a Holy God. And when Jesus Christ professed to be the Son of God, it was the most honest and ethical profession in the world because it is who he is. The Great Physician. And I believe Him. So I trust Him.
